ABSTRACT

This research study on the impact of information technology on the accounting system of banks in Nigeria: a study of UBA was done on a genuine interest on the current wave of information technology hovering across the banks, especially the bank in this study, the problem of long queue, threat loss of work, poor service, the incidence of fraud, high rate of error on customers bank balances etc, were highlighted. Generally, it was aimed at ascertaining in perspective the implication of this development to the banking sectors in order to obtain the data for the study, questionnaire were distributed to an accessible population of banks. This study was analyzed using descriptive tool, the simple percentage method was Used. Respondents (customers and bank staff) said there is an impact of information technology, no total elimination of errors in customer bank balances and they went ahead to say there is difference between old and new generation banks, 90% of the respondents have the view that l.T has helped in the elimination of long queue in banks, speed up accountant works and more than 90% said even though there is speed in accounting work there is always delay in the bank whenever there is bad network. This study recommends an improve in network and power supply, cordial relationship between customers and bank staff and the bank management should educate their customers on the need and use of modern facilities that have been made available by the bank.
