ABSTRACT xii i This study seeks to investigate empirically, the impacts of inflation on the cost of living in Nigeria over a period oftime, this study employed the Johansen Co-integration and Ordinary Least Squares Method to examine the relationship between the transportation, accommodation andfood items and human health and social services in relation to inflation rate in Nigeria from 1981-2018. The estimated result shows that, there is insignificant and positive relationship between accommodation andfood items on inflation rate while transportation and human health and social services has negative and statically insignificant on inflation rate. This study therefore recommends that, Nigeria government should ensure sufficient budgetary allocation on health expenditure in order to make proper human health and social services facilities available to Nigeria citizens, subsidies some factor or goods used domestically by citizen and also, involve in some sector, in other to reduce the level ofmonopoly and inflation rate in Nigeria.
