ABSTRACT

The study examined the impact of Human capital development on economic growth in Nigeria from 1981- 2017, using Ordinary Least Square (OLS). The study found that government expenditure on health (GEXHEALTH) has a positive significant relationship with economic growth in Nigeria, within the period under review. The study used three proxies to capture Human capital development namely, government expenditure on education (GEXEDU), government expenditure on health (GEXHEALTH) human development index (HDI) and ordinary least square estimation (OLS) technique to evaluate the model. The study therefore recommends that government should encourage the health sector through increased [umding, since the empirical result from our study showed that increase in government expenditure on health (GEXHEALTHJ raised the health status and productivity of 1he people therefore promoting economic growth.
