Impact Of Forensic Accounting On Fraud Control In Nigeria Banking Sector (A Study Of First Bank Of Nigeria Plc)

ABSTRACT

The study evaluates the impact of forensic accounting on fraud control in Nigeria banking sector. The study specifically evaluate the influence of computer assisted auditing, data mining, relative size factor and Benford 's law techniques on fraud detection and prevention. Primary data was collected using questionnaire distributed to the staff of First Bank Nig P/c in Abia State and were analyzed using regression coefficient using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. Findings from the study show that fraud detection and prevention increased when forensic accounting techniques such as computer ass isted auditing, data mining, relative size factor and Benford 's law were employed. The study concluded that with these techniques adopted effectively in banks, it will help stop fraudulent practices and help in the growth and stable development of banks in Nigeria. It was recommended that management of First Bank Nigeria Plc should at all times provide enabling environment for forensic accountants to perform their duties effectively by providing them with the best training facilities and conducive environment so as to effectively control fraud.
