ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to examine the impact of financial control and accountability in public sector organization. The role of finance in any organization is that of a life line that keeps the organization and its operations alive Finance therefore, plays a key role in the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. The paper discussed the major ana various assets offinancial control and accountability as it relates to public sector organizations in order to highlight where improvements are to be made. The process of collecting data used primary and secondary sources; primary sources were questionnaires and interviews while secondary sources were reference materials such as published articles, journals and textbooks. To achieve this objective of this research, two hypotheses were formulated and tested using Chi-square and other analytical tools used in the research were tables, simple percentage and purposive sampling technique. Findings made after the research are there is a system of financial control and accountability in Abia State Ministry of Finance and it has no impact on the Abia State Ministry of Finance and internal control system which is in the Ministry of Finance is not effective. Findings also include lack of skilled staff in accounting and accounting principles. In addition to the aforementioned, there are limited numbers of professionals in the system. The researcher based on these findings therefore recommends drat the system of internal audit should be reviewed, staff should have clear definitions of duties and there should be division oflabor
