ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the effects of methanol seed extract of Citrulluslanatus on alcohol-induced liver damage in rats. Hepatoprotective study was conducted using four groups (A-D) of four malerats per group. Groups A and B served as the control groups and weretreated with distilled water and 15% alcohol respectively for lOdays while groups C and D were treated with 15% alcohol + 2ml ofmethanol seed extract of citrulluslenatus and 7.5% alcohol + 2ml of methanol seed extract for 10 days. Animals were sacrificed on the 11th day and blood samples were collected via cardiac puncture for liver function tests (alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase(AST), alkaline phosphatase ALP, total bilirubin and total protein). There were significant increase (P<0.05) in the serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, and Total bilirubinin the group treated with alcohol alone (positive control) as compared to negative control group; while in the extract treated group, there was a decrease in the levels of the aforementioned enzymes. The result of this study suggest that the methanol seed extract of Citrullus lenatus may possess hepatoprotective property
