ABSTRACT

An indoor feeding trial was conducted to determine the growth performance and survival of ('larias gariepinus for a period of 14 weeks. Three different copens feeds of varying crude protein levels (4( % CP, 42% CP, and 45% CP) were utilized during the culture period. Diets were fed at 5% body weight daily to fish held in I 8-L plastic basins. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the mean weight of the fish were significantly different at P<0.05. The highest mean weight of 97.23g at the end of the culture period was recorded for the fish fed with copens feed of 40% crude protein, followed by those fed with 42% CP (64.09g), while the least mean weight of 63.71 g was recorded for those fed with 45% CP copens feed. A regression of the survival and the mean weight showed an inverse relationship. The highest survival of 40% at the end of the culture period was recorded for the 45% CP, followed by 42% CP with the value of 20% survival, while the least survival of 10% was recorded for the 40% CP which could have accounted for its highest mean weight.
