ABSTRACT

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been very important in many countries including Nigeria because of its role for country's economic growth. This study examines the financial and management accounting practices of SMEs. The research focuses on small non-manufacturing companies because very few studies have been conducted in this area. Besides, the findings will help to reveal some of the key points that can contribute to the decision-making and growth especially in the context of developing companies. The study gathered data using structured questionnaires constructed by the researcher. The data was analysed using ANOVA statistical tool at 95% confidence level. The findings of the study indicate that small and medium scale business financial and management accounting practices are deplorable. This study suggests that to have effective financial management, companies should evaluate it in terms of their usefulness in decision-making.
