ABSTRACT
This project work focuses on the evaluation of the role of accountants in tax assessment and collection with Abia State Board of Internal revenue as the case study. Accountants are indispensable in tax matters. Certain difficulties may therefore arise in tax assessment and collection process if the services of accountants are ignored. Accountants as professionals prepare the financial statement of organizations and file annual and tax returns of companies. Accountants appeal on behalf of clients, advising on best tax planning strategies as well as play role to the government on the best development and management tax policies.
