ABSTRACT This work was undertaken to observe the effect of crude methanolic seed extract of Datura Metel L (family Solanaceae) as a potential oral Anaesthetic in combination with Bromazepam to induce balance anaesthesia. The extra at the dose rate of 2.4g/kg was combined with Bromazepam at the dose rate of 2mg/kg and administered orally to six indigenous dogs of mean weight of 8 ± 0.368kg. Vital physiologic parameters and some anaesthetic indices was monitored using multiparameter monitoring machine. The rectal temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, tissue oxygen saturation were within normal range, good muscle relaxation, loss of anal sphincter tone, loss of pupillary reflex but poor analgesia. The dogs recovered without any complications. The study shown that extra of Datura metel L combine with Bromazepam is safe and produces good anaesthetic indices at the dose of 2.4g/kg and 1.5g/kg respectively.
