Abstract
The study was aimed at finding out the continuous assessment practices of universities lectureis. 7 univeisities weie used and sample of252 lecturers and 504 students were used. An 8-itein questionnaire was developed (UCAI) for students and a 10-item questionnaire was developed for lecturers. Four research questions guided the study and 2 null, hypotheses were stated. The research questions were analyzed using percentages and the hypotheses tested with chi-square statistics. Result showed that lecturers assessed mostly the cognitive and psychomotor domains to the neglect ofthe affective domain. Information obtained was not made use of except for records and determination of achievement. Examinations weie one shot and continuous assessment was not conducted most of the time, this encouraged anxiety and cheating. It was recommended that lecturers go for conferences and seminars in continuous assessment to help them acquire methodology and skills involved in imparting knowledge in agreementwith (FME1998).
