ABSTRACT

At the immediate vicinity of the quarry (PH) Magnifera indica had higher concentration of Cu (21 .5mg/kg) and Ni (26.08mg/kg) while Zn was higher in Carica papaya than that of other plant species. Cd and Cr occurred more in two fodder it Sailiph ing position l'I. the concentrations of ( 'r in Aspi/ia a/lcana in N, Pt I and Pill were 18.05mg/kg, 7 .50mg/kg and 5.50mg/kg respectively. Old Netim village in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River Slate is having increasing build up of (race metals in the soils and vegetation. Al though (he concentrations as a( present arc not above the minimum acceptable standard for most of the metals, the operations of the quarry industry need to be more regu I ateci to forestall avoidable degiailation of the environment.
