ABSTRACT
The study examined the effects of employee participation on organizational decision making in selected petroleum companies of Abia State, Nigeria. Beyond the broad objective, the study sought specifically to find out whether employee participation in organizational decision making has relationship with organizational performance among others. A total of 330 staff were selected across the three selected companies from which data and information were elicited using the questionnaire. The study employed descriptive statistics, Pearson’s Correlation analysis and percentages in attainment of specific objectives. The study found that employees’ participation in organizational decision making directly affects their performance in the organization; factors like employees’ with adequate decision making skills, conducive enviromnent, management style, employees’ level of education and employees’ opinions and ideas among others influences organizational output. The study concludes that employees’ participation in organizational decision making ensures increase in organizational performance and recommends among others for effective working conditions to promote ownership spirit among the staff, employees’ must be made to know that their opinions and ideas are valued and organizations should practice a management style that promotes a two way communication flow.
