ABSTRACT

This  research  work  is geared  towards  ascertaining  the  effects  of electronic banking  on the operations  of banks  in Nigeria,   a study of United  Bank for Africa  (UBA) Plc Umuahia.  This work  aims at sensitizing  and keeping  the public abreast with the available products and services of electronic  banking as well as their delivery channels;  thereby reducing the long queues seen in our banks.  The positive and negative effects of electronic  banking in Nigeria  were also discussed.   The main objective of this study is  to examine the extent to which electronic banking affects banking operations of UBA Plc. This led  to four specific objectives that in-turn gave rise to four research questions  as well as four hypotheses.  The design for this study was the survey research design.  In achieving the objective of this study primary  data was collected from the staff of UBA  PLC   Umuahia.   Questionnaire   was  used   to   obtain   data   from  the respondent.  Thereafter  some  analysis   was  carried  out  using  Ordinary  Least Square (OLS) regression analysis. The findings revealed that electronic  banking has a significant effect on the operations of the banks in Nigeria.  Based on the findings, it was recommended among other things that government should pay more attention to infrastructure development especially regarding regular power supply, telecommunication  network,  literacy level   of the masses  e.t.c.  banks should  give   more  impetus  to  the  improvement   of  e-banking  products  and services.  They should ensure that the staffs have right skills to meet the needs of modem global  society.  They should  also carry out regular system upgrade that will facilitate total eradication or curb the activities of fraudsters.
