ABSTRACT

 In order to assess (he effect of commercial bank services on the economic development of rural areas in Nigeria, this study seeks to closely examine the services rendered by commercial banks to it's customers in the rural areas. The chi-square analysis carried out using the data set obtained from research questionnaires revealed that some of the services rendered by commercial banks to rural areas include granting loans and advances, accepting and saving deposits, credit creation and project investment. This services have a positive significance on the economic development of rural areas and thus are inter-related, the study suggest that having known that the services rendered by commercial banks in Nigeria are of significance to the economic development of rural areas; Nigerians commercial banks should increase the spread at which their services are being rendered so as to foster the economic growth of rural areas in Nigeria.
