Effectiveness of Learning Activity Package on Secondary School Biology Students' Interest in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria :-U. N. Akanwa

Abstract

This study investigate how effective learning activity package strategy is on Biology students' interest in Akwa lbom State. Two research questions and two hypotheses formulated. Pretest-posttest non-randomized quasi-experimental design adopted. Population of 7,416 and sample size of 142 SS1 Biology students drawn with multi-stage sampling. Biology interest scale was the instruments with reliability coefficients of 0.79 obtained using Cronbach alpha (A). Descriptive statistics and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) answered the research questions and test the hypotheses at .05 level of significance. Results showed that there is a significant difference between Biology students taught with learning activity package (LAP) and conventional method. Students taught with LAP had higher interest score. There is also a significant difference in the mean interest and achievement score of male and female Biology students taught using LAP in favour of the male. It was recommended that Biology teachers in Akwa lbom State adopt LAP strategy.
