ABSTRACT

This study adopted a quasi experimental design and was carried out in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. The purpose of the experiment was to ascertain the effect of discussion and experimental methods of teaching on the academic performance of students in Physics in Secondary Schools in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to sample 92 (Ninety two) students in 3 (three) secondary schools in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. 5 hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Teacher made test was used for data collection and was validated by a physics teacher in one of the secondary schools. The data collected 'were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The result revealed that the use of a variety of teaching methods has a positive effect on the academic performance of students in physics in secondary schools in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
