ABSTRACT

 The study investigates the effect of tax components on government capital expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria. The major objectives ofthe study is to ascertain the influence of tax components on economic growth, to assess the effeci °f fax components on government capital expenditure and to examine the effeci °f iax components on revenue generation in Nigeria. To achieve the objectives of the study, ex-post facto research design was adopted. Data are collected from CBN statistical bulletin. In testing the hypotheses, multiple regression analysis was used. The findings revealed that there is no significant influence oftax components on real gross domestic product. Tax components has no effect on government capital expenditure in Nigeria. The findings further revealed that tax components has no effect on revenue generation in Nigeria. The following recommendations are made: that there's an urgent needfor all levels of government to clearly state the basic objectives of its tax system and the relationship between these objectives as this will assist to give the tax administrators a sense ofdirection and make the tax payer see the reasons he she should pay tax as at when due, also, the tax collection mechanism used by the tax officials must be free from corruption and embezzlement, ifthis is not done, the revenue collected may not reach the desiredpoint
