ABSTRACT
Organic content is a key component in improving the hydraulic properties of the soil. This study focused on the effect of poultry manure on the hydraulic properties of soil samples collected within Umudike region. The predominant soil after analysis was found to be sandy loam. The soil samples were treated with poultry manure at different doses; 105kg/tn, 210kg/tn, 315kg/tn 41 0kg/tn and a control sample to monitor the effect of the poultry manure application. The results obtained from the hydraulic properties of the soil were used to determine the available water, saturation point, wilting point and water holding capacity. The result of the available water was found to be highest in sample 410kg/tn at 11% while the control had the least at 7%. This result indicates an improvement in the soil hydraulic properties and water readily available to plants when used in the farm. It is therefore recommended that farmers employ the use of poultry manure to improve soil hydraulic properties.
