ABSTRACT

 This study investigated the effect ofpoorfunding in Imo state library board, owerri. Five research questions were designed to determine the state offunding in Imo state library board, owerri, the major source offunds in Imo state library board, owerri, the alternative sources offunding in Imo library board, owerri, problems associated with the inadequate funding ofImo state library board OWERRI, and the strategies that could be employed to overcome inadequate funding in Imo state library board, owerri. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 87 consisting of all library staff in the library. Effect of Poor Funding questionnaire (EPFQ) was usedfor data collection. Descriptive statistical methods such as tables, simple percentages and mean. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) were used to analyse the data. Findingsfrom the study revealed that Imo state library board owerri is not adequatelyfunded and thatfunds are scarcely released to them and are usually diverted by government. Also, the study has revealed that the major source offunding is internally generated and government subvention. It has been also revealed that other source offunds in Imo state library board are donations from groups, donations from organisation, donations from individual, Reprographic services andfinesfrom overdue books. On the other hand, the study revealed that the mostfrequent opinions generatedforfunding Imo state library board are: The library should engage in fee based services, Improvement ofstate government budgetary allocation, Elimination ofepileptic implementation of annual budget and funds made for the library should be quickly released to them.
