ABSTRACT

 The study examined the effect of planning on organizational effectiveness in Abia State Shoprite, Umuahia. The specific objectives were to; ascertain the impact of corporate planning on employee job performance, find out the challenges militating against the effectiveness of planning in an organization, ascertain the long-term effects of planning on organizational performance. The researcher used descriptive survey design because it describes the feature of the data in the study as both primary and secondary sources of data were used to gather information for the study. The population of the study was 241 employees and the sample size of I 5 I respondents was obtained. The data was analyzed with tables and chi-square was used to test hypothesis. Among the findings of the study was that - corporate planning has an impact on employee job performance in Ahia State Shoprite; The study further showed that there are challenges militating against the effectiveness of planning in Abia State Shoprite; Finally, the study shows that Planning has significant long-term effect on organizational performance in Abia State Shoprite. The study recommended that top management must participate fully in organization of the corporate/strategic and long-range plans of the organizations.
