ABSTRACT

 The studyfocused on the Effect ofPerformance Appraisal on Employees Productivity (A Study of Broadcasting Corporation ofAbia State, Umuahia). The specific objectives sought to achieve in this study includes; to examine the most effective performance Appraisal processes and procedures, to identify the main reasonsfor conducting performance appraisal, to determine the effects of problems encountered when conducting performance appraisal, to ascertain how performance appraisal affects employees’ productivity. A descriptive survey design was adopted forthe study. The study had a population size of320 employees out ofwhich a sample size of178 respondents was realized using taro Yamane’s formula at 5% error of tolerance and at 95% level ofconfidence. Instrument usedfor data collection was primarily questionnaire. Out of178 copies ofthe questionnaires that were distributed, 175 copies were returned while 3 copies were not returned. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive analysis while the hypotheses was tested using correlation, anova, and regression statistical tools. The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between performance appraisal and effective processes andprocedures in BCA (r=0.972, p=0.00< 0.05). Also there are strong positive reasons for conducting performance appraisal in BCA (r=0.982, p=0.00<0.05). The problems encountered has a negative effect during performance appraisal in BCA (r= -0.965, p= 0.00<0.05) and finally, performance appraisal to a great extent affects employees’ productivity in BCA (r=0.862, p=0.00<0.05). The study recommended that managers in Broadcasting Corporation ofAbia State, Umuahia should improve on the training and development needs. Again, methods of helpingpoorperforming employees to improve upon theirperformance should be put in place as policy intervention.
