ABSTRACT

The study investigated the effect of fiscal policies on the growth of the Nigerian economy. The objective of the study is to examine the effect of fiscal policies on the growth of the Nigerian economy. To achieve the objectives of the study, ex-post facto research design was adopted. The researcher adopted secondary data in getting the required information. The data were collected from Central Bank ol Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin. In testing the hypotheses, multiple regression analysis was used. The findings revealed that Government expenditure has a significant effect on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria. The findings also revealed that Government debts have a significant effect on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria. The study recommends that government should formulate and implement viable fiscal policy options that will stabilize the economy. This could be achieved through the practice of true fiscal federalism and the decentralization of the various levels of government in Nigeria. The researcher further recommends that to enhance economic growth and development, the government must put a stop to the incessant spending and uncontrolled money supply and embark upon specific policies aimed at achieving increasing and sustainable productivity in all sectors of the economy.
