ABSTRACT

The study examined the effect of company income tax on the economic growth in Nigeria. However, the specific objectives pursued were; to ascertain the effect of company income tax on the gross domestic product ofNigeria, to determine the relationship between company income tax and gross domestic product ofNigeria. Data generatedfrom the central bank statistical bulletin from 1990 — 2018 were analysed using simple regression. The statistical packageforsocial science (SPSS) version 23 was used to execute the analysis. The result ofthe analysis provided the findings that; the relationship between company income tax and economic growth proves to be negative and insignificant. Based on the findings made above, the study recommends the government should enact economic friendly policies that will reduce the burden of taxation on the manufacturing firms in the country, which is inadvertently shifted (incidence oftaxation) to the people. This we could accredit for the negative none significant outcome of the parameter estimate for the study duration. So the government should consciously reduce company income tax as any increase in company income tax will indirectly be shifted to the public who consume the goods and service provided at the higher company income tax rate in the country
