Effect Of Budget On Financial Performance Of The Local Government Areas In Abia State (A Case Study Of Umuahia North Local Government Area)

ABSTRACT

This research work assessed the effect of budget on the financial performance of the local government areas in Abia state using Umuahia North as a case study. Data was collected from the primary source using structured questionnaire administered to top, middle, first line management and political appointees. Data collected were analyzed using chi-square. The study found that the existing budget process is significantly effective to attain better performance, though some stakeholders differ on their perceived extent of their compliance showing there has not been full compliance with the application of budget processes. Finally, the study recommends improving extents of compliance with budget process by organizing seminar and workshop by Umuahia North local government Area for incumbent and would be stakeholders in budget implementation and imposing to sell as deterrent against failure to comply with established budget process.
