Effect Of Biometric System On The Payment Of Local Government Workers Salaries The Study Of Bende Local Government Area

ABSTRACT

In Nigeria, the increase rate of ghost workers especially in the local government, state, even the federal has caused a strain on the performance of workers in the local government thereby leading to a decline in the effective and efficient result to the public. This trend brought about the thought to uphold biometric system. The main objective is to determine the impact of biometric system on the payment of local government workers' salaries. The study adopted primary data method of data collection and the variables examined are Biometric system and local government workers' performance and payment of salaries. The researcher administered a survey questionnaire to 273 members of staff of Bende LGA since it was the most appropriate tool to gather the information. Descriptive statistics such as percentages and tables were used in the data presentation and the researcher employed the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient of data analysis to estimate the relationship of the variables. Data presentation was done by the use of tables for easy understanding and interpretation. The study found that the use of biometric system by the staff has significant effect on regularity and punctuality to work by Bende LGA workers. In view of the above, the study therefore recommends that the application and use of biometric system should be encouraged in third tier of government so as to curb the excesses of ghost worker syndrome.
