Effect Of Biology Practical Activities On Academic Achievement Of Senior Secondary School Students In Ikwuano L.G.A Of Abia State

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the effect of Biology practical activities on academic achievement of senior secondary school students in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. The study adopted quasi-experimental design. A total of 70 students comprising 35 students each from 2 schools, took part in the study. Two research questions and two hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance guided the study. Biology Achievement Test, as the research instrument was developed, validated, pilot tested and used for the study. The reliability was calculated using Kudder-Richardson and was found to be 0.75. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions, ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses. Findings revealed that practical activities are effective in improving academic performance of students. However, rural school students performed better than the urban school students when taught Biology using theory with practical and theory alone respectively. Also, there is a significant difference between male and female students taught biology using practical.
