ABSTRACT

This study examinedthe effect ofaudit report onfinancialperformance ofdeposit money banks in Nigeria (2000 — 2018), a study of United Bank for Africa. The specific objectives are to: determine the effect ofauditors ’ report ofoperating income on return on asset ofdeposit money bank; examine the effect ofauditors ’ report in amount offraud detected on return on equity; examine the effect of auditors ’ report in operating expenses on return on investment; and determine the effect ofauditors ’ report ofloan and advances on total deposit of banks. The study adopted expo facto research design. Secondary data were usedfor the study and were sourcedfrom annualfinancial bulletin ofUnitedBankforAfrica. The data were analyzedwith a simple regression model. The result showed that, auditors' report ofoperating income has signifcant effect on return on asset ofdeposit money bank. Auditors ’ report on amount offraud delected has significant effect on return on equity. Operating expenses has significant effect on return on investment; and auditors ’ report ofloan and advances has significant effect on total customer deposit ofbanks. It was recommended that there is needfor bankingfirms to hire sound auditors who will be able analyze the financial transactions without bias. This will help the organization to understand theirfinancial strength and areas where necessaiy attention and resources should be channeled to
