ABSTRACT

The study investigated on the effect of accounting information system on firm’s productivity in Nigeria. The major objectives of the study are to examine how accounting information system affect decision making ofmanagers, to determine the effect ofaccounting information system on organizational effectiveness in terms of productivity and profitability ofthe firm and to identify the challenges confronting the implementation ofaccounting information system. To achieve the objectives of the study, survey research design was adopted. The researcher adopted primary data in getting the required information. In testing the hypotheses, regression analysis was used was used. The findings revealed that there is a significant effect of accounting information system on the manager’s decision making in the organization. The findings further- revealed that there is a significant effect of accounting information system on the organizational effectiveness andproductivity. The researcher recommends that government should make concerted effort in the provision ofinfrastructuralfacilities such as power and communication network to enhance efficiency and reduce cost of doing business in the Nigerian banking industry and generally in other sectors of the economy. The researcher also recommends that there is the need to harmonize and standardize the deployment of software packages in the banks to engender uniformity and assist the regulatory authorities in their supervisory roles.
