ABSTRACTS

The study aimed to determine dietary patterns, physical activity, and anthropometric status of adolescents (10-19 years) attending day secondary school in Umuahia North. The study made use of descriptive and inferential statistics to analyse their responses. WHO Anthro + was used to determine the nutritional status ofthe respondents. The result revealed that the prevalence of stunting amongst the adolescents in Umuahia North was 9.3% and the prevalence of obesity was 1.1%. also, female respondents were more (77.3%) and some (44.2%) ofthe respondents were aged 17-19 years of age and in senior class 2 (55%). The study also revealed that 89.2% of the respondents' fathers- are breadwinners and 88.4% of the participants lived with both parents. Majority (70.5% and 94%) engaged in vigorous and moderate physical activities, respectively. The result revealed that 58.9% consumed breakfast and 97.6% ofthe meals were from home. Only 2.4% of them skip dinner. The majority of the participants had normal nutritional weight for age. This is because they engaged in physical activities. Continuous exercise and a healthy diet are encouraged in order to avoid metabolic diseases.
