ABSTRACT An apparatus for determining whirling speeds of shafts was developed in this study using locally sourced standard materials. Results of the experiment carried to evaluate its performance shows only be used to demonstrate whirling of shafts whose critical speeds are within the operating speed ofthe apparatus, which was determined to be between 713-4350 rpm. Also, as the results of the critical speeds determined practically with the experiment was very be used in school laboratories to experimentally determine the critical speeds of shafts of diameters between 3 mm -16 mm, with lengths not exceeding 1.0 m. The total cost of producing the apparatus is one hundred and ninetyfour Thousand, two Hundred and Fifty-two Naira, fifty kobo (N194,252:50) only
