ABSTRACT
The problem of, soil erosion, especially in the south-eastern part of Nigeria, is enormous. This problem is affecting the development because infrastructures such as houses, roads and many others are being destroyed yearly and this in turn constitutes an environmental menace. To effectively tackle this problem, there is a need to evaluate those factors of soils that affect erosion. In this study, some indices of soil erosion in Olokoro Abia State were determined. This study involves taking measurements of. some soil parameters such as permeability, soil texture, and classification index on the field as well as laboratory tests from which the erodibility indices were computed. The moisture content obtained from the soil samples collected from the three experimental locations show that moisture content for soils ranges from 18.13 to 21.80 % with the average moisture content of 20.49 % as at the time of the study. The average value of the soil bulk density for the locations was 1.45 g/cm3while the average value of the porosity obtained for the experimental site was 44.4 g/cm3. The results revealed that the soil is predominately Loam Sand soil.
