Determinants Of Access To Land In Rural Areas In Umuahia North Local Government Area Of Abia State

ABSTRACT

The study investigates determinants of access to land in Umuahia North Local Government Area. Collection of data was done via the use of well structured questionnaires. The socio-economic variables and method of land acquisition were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency tables' percentages and mean. The multiple regression technique was used to identify factors that influenced access to land and the effect of family size on size of land holdings. The result obtained showed that level of education (X3), occupation (X5) and monthly income (X6) were significant variables affecting access to the number of plots in the study area and were significant at 1%, 1% and 1% respectively. Farmers could therefore maximize access to land through improved literacy level, fresh zeal for farming (Primary occupation) to improve production. This of course increase income level of household.
