ABSTRACT

This project is focused on the design and implementation of automatic irrigation control system. The control system is built around Atmega 32 microcontroller programmed using embedded C language. Inputs are the signals from four sensors namely soil moisture sensor using hygrometer module, water level sensor using the ULN Darlington I 2803 as inverter, light sensor with the aid of Light dependent resistor and temperature control software embedded in its internal ROM to generate three output signals, using one of the output signals to control a water pump that irrigates the garden, the second output signals to control a water pump that draws water from the river to the reservoir shortage of water in a tank that supplies the garden. The result showed that early in the morning time between 6.00 am to 10.00 am and evening 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm more volume of water of about 50 litres is used for irrigation, while between 12 noon to 4.00 pm little or no water is used.
