ABSTRACT

The aim of this project is to accomplish the design and implementation of an automatic changeover switch. A theoretical background for the project is established as a basis upon which the actual design and implementation is carried out. Also, detailed circuit diagrams are developed and subsequently analyzed and implemented, with electromechanical devices being used as the principal components to accomplish the automatic changeover process. The specified automatic changeover switch is designed to have an Open Transition configuration and the assembled unit utilizes delay circuitry to accomplish the automation of load transfer. An automatic changeover switch, in comparison with a manual changeover switch, offers the relative advantages of having a higher reliability and overall operational efficiency in the delivery of electrical power to a load, as it may intrinsically allow for the smooth and uninterrupted transfer of electrical power from either of the power sources.
