ABSTRACT

Due to irregularpower supplycommon in developing countries, as well as growing high cost of hydrocarbon, the need arises for the development of a triplex powered oven that uses electricity, gas and kerosene for heating oven chambers. The triplex-powered oven is a combination ofthree components and three layers ofchamberspoweredby electricity, gas and kerosene respectivelywhich makes itpossible the use ofalternative heatsources. The research is an improvement on the previous work which had gas, electric and temperature sensor regulator component. The volumetricflow rate, Q obtained showed that the maximum quantity ofkerosene that will be discharged and burnt every second, ifthe pressure in the cylinder is maintained at 1 MPa, is 4.71xl0’6m3. The outer oven temperature was 63°C. Mercury in glass thermometer was used to determine the temperatures ofthe oven (thermometer ofrange 0- 110°C and of range 50-150°C). Perforations allow for heat dissipation within the lower chamber. The performance test gave oven efficiency of95.2 per cent. The oven can be adapted for both domestic and industrialpurposes andhave beenfoundvery useful in bakery industries.
