Design And Development Of A Prototype Lawn Mower Using Nylon Blade As The Cutting Tool

ABSTRACT

A gasoline operated- modified lawn mower for cutting grass using Nylon blade as the cutting tool was designed. developed and tested. The cutting mechanism was made of a Nylon blade rigidly fixed to the gear box. The machines performance evaluation was conducted in a football field where grasses of different height were cut with it. During the field test, the actual efficiency of the machine was estimated in fields of different conditions (Normal field condition, stony field condition and marshy field condition) at various height adjustment of the lawn mower. The result obtained show that the machine efficiency at different grass height was64.3% while that of different field condition was 61%. The actual field capacity of the machine was obtained to be O.088ha/hr. The overall field efficiency was found to be 96.7%. However, these results indicate that if the efficiency can be improved, the use of nylon blade in future lawn mower is inevitable since nylon blades can easily cut grasses in stony fields with less damage on the machine.
