Database Mining: Key to Information Retrieval and Dissemination for 21st Century Information Business and Entrepreneurship: Amogu Uma K

Abstract

The 21st century has been characterised by two major phenomena; information explosion and unemployment. Information explosion of the 21st century, unemployment and the immediate past global economic meltdown have had serious negative effects on the finances of individuals, families, businesses, corporations and the nation as a whole. Improved and sustainable economic growth depends on strong entrepreneurial culture and education. In response to the twin problems of the 21st century, librarians and other library and information science (US) professionals have resorted to information business, otherwise referred to as information brokerage. For effective and efficient information delivery in the information business, practitioners must have good knowledge and techniques of filtering out useful information from trash or junks from chains of database repositories for quality decision making. This involves knowledge of database mining. The paper therefore, x-rays and highlights the key concepts of database mining, information retrieval systems, skills required for database mining and its benefits in facilitating information retrieval and dissemination for 21" century information business and entrepreneurship.
