Construction Of A Transformer Trainer

ABSTRACT

This work is based on the design and construction of a single phase transformer trainer. The instrument could also be referred to as a transformer tutor or a distribution trainer. Introduction of the instrument as an indigenous technology is brought to the fore; its merit over the imported unit is also established. However this piece of work sheds light into the basic operation of a single phase transformer focusing on aspects that are of relevant to its use on the equipment constructed. It further brings to light the design and construction of the equipment (transformer trainer). The ease for students to freely test their own transformer project and access their performance is also shown by experiments that have been illustrated, which includes short circuit and open circuit tests. Results from these tests can be used to determine the efficiency of a single phase transformer.
