ABSTRACT

Skin effect modeling of rotor bar of induction machine involves the use of mathematical models to accurately and reliably represent the diffusive behavior of rotor bar current during transient conditions. This work presents the computer modeling of a rectangular rotor bar of squirrel cage induction machine. To effectively accommodate the uneven distribution of rotor bar current due to frequency effect, a six (6) section T - circuit network model is developed. All solutions and analysis of the mathematical model are done using MATLAB programs. An optimization algorithm that minimizes the model error to give a near exact model impedance as the actual rotor bar impedance is also presented. It is verified that increasing the number of sections in the T - circuit model network (within a certain limit) can indeed improve the accuracy of the model results. For this work, the number of sections was increased to 15.
