ABSTRACT

This study is on comparative analysis of child labour in agricultural activities and schooling in lkwuano Local Government Area in Abia state. A random sample of 52 household was chosen from the study area for study. Questionnaire were distributed and collected, data analysis were done using mean, frequency distribution, percentage and multinomial logit regression model. The result showed that parents of the children (involved in child labour) were literate with 64 percent of them having secondary education. Seventy two (72) percent of the household income were within the ranges of N1000-N50000, sixty two (62) percent of the household size ranged between 6-11. Fifty two (52) percent of the respondents' parents were with farming experience ranging between 1-29 years. Majority of the respondent (children) lived in concrete houses with galvanized sheets. Age of child (AGECHLD), parent's education (PAEDU), Household size (HHSIZE) were significant for work and school only. The result also showed that the child labour incidence is low with a greater participation in schooling. An average of 6.5 hours and 5.2 hours were spent going to the school and farm per day respectively. This show that child labour incidence was relatively low.
