Awareness and Use of Resource Description and Access {RDA) for Cataloguing among Librarians in University Libraries in Southwest Nigeria :- Jude-Iwuoha, Adeaze U.

Abstract

Cataloguing is a conventional method of describing library resources bibliographically using the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rule" edition (AACR2) as a standard. A practice which has a long history of usage since its introduction has remained a universally accepted standard by Librarians globally. However, as a result of the emergence of c-resources in the 20" century, the AACR2 has become deficient in scope, this situation led to the development and implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA) which takes into cognizance the limitations in the AACR2, which descriptive scope did not cover the newly evolving e-resources. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and questionnaire in the collection of data from respondents. The data were analyzed using simple percentage. The study revealed that majority of the respondents are aware of resource description and access, but RDA is not used for cataloguing in their university libraries. Consequently, this situation has led to none implementation of RDA in their University Libraries. In view of the above, this present study will examine awareness and use of RDA for cataloguing in university libraries in Southwest, Nigeria.
