ABSTRACT

 The study also established certainfactors that affects the availability and use ofserials in the library. Thesefactors as they affect availability include; lack offunds, issues arisingfrom theft and mutilation, management issues resulting to delay in acquisition, absence of a wellarticulated serials acquisition policy, poor network which affects serial resources via subscription and unreliable serials vendor. Likewise, the factors affecting use ofserials by students in the library include; inability to effectively source for information in serials (information illiteracy), inadequacy in the number of serials available for use, lack of awareness ofserials in the library. Also, it is discovered thatstudents make use ofserialsfor various reasons. Afew amongst these numerous reasons include;forresearch, to broaden my knowledge on aparticularsubject, for leisure, for classroom assignments andforfacts and current information. These reasons spur students to continue making use ofserialsfrom time to time. That MOUAU Library to some extent, have provided some vital serials especially in areas of printserialresources, however, much isstill left to be desiredmoreso in the area ofelectronic serials such as; electronic journals, electronic magazines and other similar periodicals, as these will go a long way to enhance students' study habits, it is evident that students make extensive use ofthe serialsresident in the Library.
