ABSTRACT

This study investigated on the impact ofcapital gain tax on Nigeria Economy. The objectives of the study are: to ascertain the impact ofcapital gain tax on gross domestic product ofNigeria and to examine the impact of capital gain tax on total revenue generation in Nigeria. To achieve the objective ofthe study, ex postfacto research design methodwas adopted. The researcher adopted secondary data in getting the required information. It was sourcedfrom FIRS statistical bulletin and CBN statistical bulletin. The data coveredfrom 2006-2015. In testing the hypothesis, simple . regression analysis was used. The findings revealed that capital gain lax has a significant impact on gross domestic product ofNigeria. The findingsfurther revealed that capital gain tax has a significant impact on total revenue generation in Nigeria. The researcher recommends that the economy of Nigeria should be restructuredfor taxation to play a major source ofnon-oil revenue, lax reforms should he made less complex and the level of corruption in the management oftax revenue should be minimized to achieve the goals ofa good tax system.
