ABSTRACT
Fifteen Water samples from different points of Anya River were collected and analyzed for physicochemical parameters. A total of nineteen parameters including colour, turbidity, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), total carbon, nitrates, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, suiphates, phosphates, chlorides, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), pH., and electrical conductivity were assessed and compared with FAO standards for irrigation quality. The pH values of the samples range from 5.6 to 7.3 and has a mean value of 6.265, calcium vales range from 8.02 to 24.05 and has a mean value of 16.3, TDS vales range from 28.8 to 29.1 and has a mean value of 25.67, magnesium values range from 2.43 to 9.72 with mean value of 5.83, conductivity range from 4.5 to 8.8 and has a mean value of 6.63 2. The physical and chemical properties of the studied river are within the range of values considered acceptable for irrigation purposes according to FAO standards. The water samples had higher values of total nitrogen, NO3 N and NH4-N compared with FAO standards. The mineral cation content of the river was lower than the FAO standard. Generally, the properties of Anya River showed that it is suitable for use in crop irrigation
