ABSTRACT

The study was carried out on analysis of public relations practice of the market performance of downstream oil sector in Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to analyze the effect of public relations practice on the market performance of the petroleum downstream sector in Nigeria, to analyze the effect, of community 'relations on product patronage, to examine the effect of media relations On profitability. T'he data used in this study were primary and secondary. 1'hc sample size for the study vas determined through Taro Yamanc method. Simple regression was used to test the hypothesis. The finding showed that the performance of public relations reduces short term profitability and increases a company's profitability in the long run. The practice of public relations increases a Company's turnover, working capital and reduces liquidity. The researcher recommends that business entities should put more effort in customer protection and satisfaction. The oil, business firm should be environmental friendly and responsible to the ethnics and laws guiding the oil business and its operations. Business organization should be involved in community development and also play active roles in supporting government in developmental programmes.
