Analysis Of Distribution Sales, And Consumption Pattern Of Beef In Abia State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT

After an indepth study of distribution sales and consumption pattern of beef in Abia state through responses to questions and interviews, some findings were made which could be summarized as follows: That consumption rate of beef is very high especially in Aba and Umuahia despite the medical advice about the effect of consumption of beef meat. Also, the result of the analysis shows that 60% of the respondents strongly agreed on the high consumption rate of beef meat. That price of beef is very high especially in urban centres in the state. Also, the result of the analysis shows that 65% of the respondents strongly agreed on the high price and called the authorities and stakeholders concern to check it. That major factors that determined the consumption of beef meat include; the monthly income, family interest, price, quality and availability. The study also found that consumers especially from rural areas in the state respond according to changes in the price of beef. Also, the major constraints faced by beef distributors and sellers include: storage facilities, road network and transportation difficulty. The study found that many people that go into beef business is to earn a living and income. The study found that the activity of the customers is a case in point. Most customers always buy on credit and do not pay the money as at when due. This attitude result to • misunderstanding and fighting most times.
