ABSTRACT This cxpcrii-nenl was carried out to ascertain whether Chrysophyllum albidum seed endosperm (CSEE) and Daucus carola stem (DCS) can cause abortion in gravid albino rats. Fifteen albino rats, purchased from Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology laboratory animal farm, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike were used for the experiment. Twelve were females while three were males. The females were put four per cage while the three males were put in environment for one week before commencement of the experiments. Then one male each left for a period of 14days before separating the male rat from the female rats. Cyesis was confirmed via prominent mammary glands and distended abdomen. Chrysophyllum albidum seed endosperm extract (CSEE) was administered at a dose of 800mg/kg intra-peritoneal (IP) to the Ibur females in cage two while Daucus carota stem extract (DSE) was administered to the four control in cage one were given distilled water (IP) for three days. Five days after the treatments, two females per pen were sacrificed. The result showed that those treated with CSEE and DSE had their embryos either resorbed or aborted while the control had full fetuses.
