An Evaluation of Selective Dissemination of Information Services in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike:- Chinyere, Okezie A.

Abstract

The study is a survey in which the registered research officers-and faculty members of the selected libraries were purposively sampled. Data was collected by use of a structured questionnaire and analyzed by simple frequency and percentages. The results indicate that Selective Dissemination of Information services in the two cases studied is largely ineffective arising from several challenges including inadequacy of staff information resources, power supply, telecom infrastructure and ICT related factors. The study also highlights some of the advantages of SDI which include the maximum use of available information and information resources through structured, personalized instructional activities. It recommends the re-organization am/ re-tooling of library staff and operations in line with emerging ICT trends.
