ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the role of auditors in promoting good corporate governance in Nigeria. The system which companies are directed and controlled, the objective of this study is to present strategies corporate governance can be attained in firms, when these strategies are properly implemented, they improve performance in firms. It presents the importance of auditors role in achieving corporate governance when sound code of ethics are employed in presenting financial statement by experts in the field of study, that is auditors, if there a significant role auditors play in corporate firms, and if they facilitate benchmarking of corporate governance the sampling technique adopted was purposive primary data instrument was used (questionnaire and personal interview) The population used was 60 and all 60 are used. The data collected and calculated are presented using chi-square to analyze hypotheses land 2 at 0.05 degree of freedom and 95% level of significance and likert scale technique was used to analyze hypotheses 3. The findings made is that auditors role has a significant impact in corporate governance of firms and thus increase performance and accountability and should be imbibed in firms especially in all large firms and government entities to enhance its effectiveness, efficiency, risk management and achieve corporate governance.
